The attack came barely a week after the killing of 14 miners at a mining site at Janruwa area of the same state.

The attack, which tookmplace in Gwaska Village, in the Birnin Gwari area, saw a mass slaughter take place.

"My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims and the people of Birnin Gwari".

The killings in Birnin Gwari are regrettable.

Also, one of the volunteers said search and rescue operation was ongoing at Gwaska, saying, "death toll may rise as many bodies are likely to be found in the bush".

"Among the dead in the village Guasca, in the district of birni n Gwari in Kaduna state were children under the age of 10 years", - stated in the message.

"Kaduna state government is deeply committed to overcoming the unfortunate criminality and banditry being carried out against innocent citizens in Birnin Gwari local government".

However, a group of indigenes of Birnin-Gwari, both home and in diaspora, which call themselves Birnin-Gwari Vanguard for Good Governance, have called on the federal and state governments to come to their aid and stop the bloodletting.

At least 45 bodies were recovered from the fields of Birnin Gwari area of Kaduna province in northern Nigeria.

President Muhammadu Buhari, and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris have again promised to flood an area of the country with security operatives following the killings of scores of Nigerians.

However, spokesman for the Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Mukhtar Aliyu, said he was still working to get details of the incident at the time of this report.

"The bandits, from neighbouring Zamfara State, encircled Gwaska up to Kuiga village shooting sporadically".

Gwaska residents say Saturday's attackers used to be cattle thieves but had turned to banditry in the region's remote villages. Also the Armed bandits burnt down completely the village of about 3,000 inhabitants.
