At least 12 more people were killed after a thunderstorm wreaked havoc in parts of Uttar Pradesh. Heavy rain is also expected at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, south interior Karnataka and Kerala.

Another death was reported earlier in the evening from Hathras district, where a 15-year-old boy was struck by lightning while returning from the fields in Mohabbatpura village. 27 people were also injured.

Five people died in Etawah district, three each in Mathura, Aligarh and Agra, two in Firozabad and one each in Hathras and Kanpur Dehat on Wednesday night, an official spokesperson said. The minimum temperature was recorded at 22.4 degrees Celsius, two notches below the season's average, whereas the maximum is expected to hover around 35 degrees Celsius. The high-speed winds hit the national capital and adjoining areas in NCR - including Gurgaon and Noida, prompting authorities to issue advisory.

On May 2, a severe thunderstorm in north India, accompanied with high velocity winds, saw 70 persons die in just Uttar Pradesh. "More funds have been allocated to the worst affected districts for providing immediate relief to the families of victims", said he.

The India Meteorological Department said the stormy conditions were subsiding in northern India. Parts of Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Delhi experienced rain and strong winds on Tuesday.
