The warning is for Northumberland, Juniata, Snyder and Perry County as well as southeastern Union County until 5:30 p.m.

But "the greatest risk for severe thunderstorms will be from 4 p.m.to 8 p.m.", the weather service said. Some of these storms could be severe, with damaging winds and large hail possible, along with heavy rain.

Storms will quickly clear to the east of our area around sunset and the focus will then turn to the excessive heat expected for Mother's Day weekend.

With increased heat and instability, a few of the storms may turn severe this afternoon. This will bring a chance of showers and thunderstorms on Friday afternoon into Friday evening.

Cooler weather on Sunday behind a cold front, but after that front pushes through, a few scattered showers and storms are possible into early next week. Friday will feature much more sunshine with highs approaching 90 degrees for many. Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 miles per hour are likely.

Tuesday, there will be a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a high near 86, the weather service said.
