Final day The 104-year-old British Australian is a world-renowned botanist and ecologist

David Goodall, the 104-Australian scientist who traveled to Switzerland to end his life because he could not do so in Australia, died Thursday.

Right-to-die group Exit International said Goodall started planning for his suicide after his quality of life began deteriorating.

Goodall, a world-renowned botanist, reportedly died at 10am on Thursday in a euthanasia clinic at an undisclosed location.

Assisted suicide has been legal in Switzerland since the 1940s if performed by someone with no direct interest in the death.

Meanwhile, Switzerland has allowed assisted suicide since 1942.

As for his final words, Professor Goodall joked: "this is taking an awfully long time".

CNN notes that the 104-year-old scientist had advocated for the legalization of assisted suicide in Australia and that his home state of Western Australia is now debating whether to introduce the policy. He answered a series of questions from medical personnel on site to establish that he was of sound mind and understood what was happening.

Dr Goodall told reporters on Wednesday: One should be free to choose the death, when death is at an appropriate time.

When asked to detail the "issue" at hand, Cardi declined, but confirmed the "Chun-Li" rapper hurt her feelings. The rapper revealed to the press that her next album is called Queen . "That really, really hurt me".

Earlier this year, however, Goodall fell while home alone in his one-bedroom apartment and remained on the floor for two days until he was found by his cleaner, The New Daily reported. And I'm very happy to end it, ' he said.

Assisted suicide describes any act that intentionally helps another person kill themselves, for example by providing them with the means to do so, most commonly by prescribing a lethal medication. David Goodall swallowed the lethal cocktail of chemicals at the Swiss clinic today.

OR has seen many abuses since since its legalization of assisted suicide, such as cases of pills changing hands, either intentionally or unknowingly, with lethal results.

Goodall told CNN he would have chosen to have expired when he lost his driver's license in 1998, including that the lack of liberty in 8-4 had been a big moment in his own life span. "I would love to be able to walk into the bush again, and see what is all around me".

"I really could still love birdsong, " he included".

He married three times, has four children and twelve grandchildren.

He was born in the U.K.in April 1914, just before the outbreak of World War I, and moved from London to Australia as a child. He also worked in Britain and held academic posts at US universities, including at Utah State University in Logan.
