Malaysia's Mahathir meets with king after stunning election win

At 92 years old, he was sworn in as the country's new Prime Minister and becomes the world's oldest elected leader.

Malaysia's seventh prime minister Tun Mahathir Mohamad, who led political coalition Pakatan Harapan to triumph against BN on Wednesday, vouched to reopen investigation on the cases such as 1MDB as well as to investigare agencies believed to have "committed known corrupt acts" such as the MACC, the EC and the Attorney General.

Speaking to Malaysian media, sources close to Najib had dismissed claims he was fleeing, saying he just wanted to go on a break after a grueling election campaign.

Mohamad Azlan Shah, a member of Mahathir's party in the crowd, said he was "very proud". The fund has consistently denied wrongdoing.

Mahathir also said Saturday that the future of jailed opposition leader Anwar, whose support in the opposition coalition helped oust Najib, would be determined by the party.

"The Malaysian Immigration Department would like to confirm that Najib Razak and Rosmah Mansor have just been blacklisted from leaving the country", the agency said on its official Facebook page.

Mahathir said there was sufficient evidence for an investigation into Najib, in reference to a massive corruption scandal involving the 1MDB state fund that Najib set up and is being investigated in the United States and other countries. It was only allowed to pass after those inside rolled down a window to prove Najib was not in the van.

Logan County under severe thunderstorm watch until 7 pm
The warning is for Northumberland, Juniata, Snyder and Perry County as well as southeastern Union County until 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, there will be a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a high near 86, the weather service said.

U.S. investigators said Najib's associates stole $4.5bn from the fund, of which some $700m landed in Najib's bank account, and some $30m was used to buy jewellery for his wife. He is a staunch Malay nationalist who could appeal to the country's biggest ethnic group, and whose years in power were remembered as a prosperous period in the country's history.

Mahathir is expected to announce his cabinet line-up later on Saturday.

"There are a lot of complaints against him, all of which have to be investigated", Mahathir told a news conference.

A pardon will mean that Mr Anwar is free to return to politics and could take a seat in parliament. Lim Guan Eng, secretary-general of the Democratic Action Party, was appointed as the Finance Minister; Mohamad Sabu, a long-time opposition politician, as the defence minister; former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin, as the home or interior minister; former Central bank Governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz and business tycoon Robert Kuok were appointed as members of the "Council of Elders".

Anwar is in prison on corruption and sodomy charges that were widely denounced as politically motivated. "What we want is to restore the rule of law. if the law says that Najib has done something wrong, then he will have to face the consequences".

Mahathir, dubbed the "Father of Modern Malaysia" during his previous 22 years in power until 2003, told reporters at the news conference he would try to make the ringgit as steady as possible but did not announce any policy moves.
