Defending Champions of FIFA World Cup, Germany has announced its 27-man provisional squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup which will be played in Russian Federation. We will be open and honest after the training camp, and without match practice, you can't go into a tournament.

Uncapped Freiburg striker Nils Petersen is rewarded for a fine goalscoring season in the Bundesliga Mario Gotze who scored the winning goal in the final as Germany triumphed four years ago, misses out, however, after suffering a severe dip in form at Signal Iduna Park this term but Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi and Liverpool midfielder Emre Can are among those to miss out.

The 27-man squad announced on Tuesday by Germany coach, Joachim Low, is made up of four goalkeepers, nine defenders, ten midfielders and four strikers.

The 32-year-old could make a high-profile return in Bayern's DFB-Pokal showdown with Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, while Germany have scheduled pre-tournament friendlies against Austria and Saudi Arabia.

"He got 15 goals with a team that does not create many goal chances". "We saw that we're not as good as we're always told we are - and perhaps some of us think we are".

Given Loew's trust in experienced players, local media are speculating that 2014 World Cup hero Mario Goetze could be recalled despite a disappointing season at Borussia Dortmund and his omission for the recent friendlies with Spain and Brazil.

"It wasn't his best season. Personally, I'm very sorry for him", Loew said of Goetze. "Some (of the reaction) seems to be over the top to me".

Germany face Mexico, Sweden and South Korea in World Cup Group F and will prepare in the Italian Alps from May 23 to June 5 ahead of the tournament in Russian Federation.
