Indonesia is on high alert after a wave of recent bombings

Two police officers and one local journalist were also injured in the attack.

Although NII is separate from the Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) group that was behind the bombings in Surabaya and Sidoarjo, Setyo said they were all part of the wider pro-Islamic State (IS) network in Indonesia.

This week's attacks are the worst in the world's biggest Muslim-majority country since the bombing of tourist-packed restaurants in Bali in 2005.

"Two police officers were wounded in the arms and head by the sharp weapons", Sunarto told Detik.

The suicide bombings, involving families with young children, and an explosion at an apartment where militants were thought to have been building bombs have left around 30 people dead, including 13 suspected perpetrators, police said.

"The one who escaped has been captured and secured at Pekanbaru police station", Mr Wasisto said.

Two policemen were injured by the sword attacks and another was killed after being hit by the minivan which was trying to escape from the compound of the headquarters, he added.

Nawaz Sharif confirms Pakistani militants carried out 26/11 Mumbai attacks
Union Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told ANI, "Pakistan is exclusively responsible for 26/11 terrorist attack". The lone survivor, Ajmal Amir Kasab, was caught and was sentenced to death at Yerwada Central Jail in Pune in 2012.

The bloody violence is putting pressure on Indonesia's parliament to pass a stalled security law that would give police more power to take pre-emptive action against terror suspects.

All six bombers were killed, including the mother who was Indonesia's first known female suicide bomber.

On Monday members of another family blew themselves up at a police station in Surabaya, wounding 10.

Earlier, an internal police report said that one of the dead men had a suspected bomb strapped to his body.

Following the 2002 Bali bombings, it had been widely praised for its sustained anti-terrorism crackdown.

The coordinated church attack was a sign local extremist groups were becoming more proficient, and stirs concerns about an uptick in extremism as hundreds of Indonesians who flocked to fight alongside Islamic State in the Middle East return home.
