North Korea congratulated Nicolás Maduro on winning Venezuela's election

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said on Tuesday that he had ordered the chief of mission at the US Embassy in Caracas to leave the country within 48 hours.

"The empire won't dominate us here", Maduro said Tuesday in a televised event at an electoral commission meeting.

The move was announced by Maduro in a televised speech moments after he was officially declared as the victor of Sunday's election. Earlier this year, the Trump administration had slapped personal financial and visa sanctions on dozens of high-ranking Venezuelan officials.

The G7 and European Union add that while the Maduro regime "solidifies its authoritarian grip, the people of Venezuela continue to suffer human rights abuses and serious deprivation".

The US has already tightened sanctions against Venezuela after the poll, which Maduro won with 68 percent of the vote but was boycotted by the main opposition parties and had a record abstention rate.

Mauricio Macri and the Lima Group have both rejected the legitimacy of the recent elections in Venezuela. The sanctions are so harsh that United States companies are not allowed to buy off debt from Petróleos de Venezuela which is an oil company owned by the Venezuelan government.

Maduro was sworn in on Thursday for a second term as president of the Latin American country.

Court documents suggest that Schulte was aware of the images and had warned one user not to "put anything too illegal on there". In documents, prosecutors allege that they found a large cache of child pornography on a server that was maintained by Schulte.

The Trump administration announced it was blocking the Venezuelan government from selling off the nation's assets in exchange for cash. The South American country uses mostly USA diluents to reduce the viscosity of its heavy oils, and would have to pay much more to get them elsewhere.

"This attack against Venezuela, which seeks to completely strangle the country, is unheard of", Vielma said, adding that Venezuela would continue to collect on its accounts receivable.

The EU had warned in April that it would consider further sanctions against Venezuela of its own if the elections were not fair.

Hundreds of thousands have fled the country to escape the growing deprivation.

He accused the pair of trying to sabotage Venezuela's presidential election by pressuring several anti-government presidential candidates not to compete in the race.

I agree. Western democracies and Venezuela's domestic opposition should act fast, because - despite Venezuela's economic collapse - time may be running in Maduro's favor.

For worldwide pressures to work, they should be stepped up, taken in unison and be accompanied by greater unity of Venezuela's opposition parties and escalating protests on the streets.
