Democrats say briefings did not support Trump's claim of Federal Bureau of Investigation 'spy'

Informants, infiltration and spying: Some definitions in the FBI investigation of team Trump

In recent days, Trump has been zeroing in on and sometimes embellishing reports that a longtime US government informant approached members of his campaign during the presidential election in a possible bid to glean intelligence on Russian efforts to sway the election.

MARTIN: So another aspect of the Russian Federation investigation - we learned yesterday Jared Kushner, the president's son-in-law, sat for a second interview with a special counsel team last month.

Separately on Wednesday, Mueller's prosecutors asked a federal judge to start the process of sentencing former Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos, who has been a key witness in the investigation since his plea previous year to lying to the FBI.

The Post and the Times declined to name the informant, noting that USA intelligence officials have warned that revealing his name could expose him to risk.

"Really from the beginning of his presidency, President Trump has not observed the time-honored norm that's been in place at least since Watergate that there should be a real division between the Department of Justice and the White House", said Yates, who was sacked by Trump in January 2017 for refusing to defend the administration's travel ban. "The whole thing is already a waste of money". We can't trust anything they say!

Amid those reports, the White House arranged the classified briefing Thursday for two Republican House members who had pressed for information on the outside informant.

Even as he reached a critical moment in his diplomatic efforts with North Korea and celebrated the release of a prisoner from Venezuela, President Donald Trump spent much of Memorial Day weekend tweeting angrily from the White House about the media and the Russian Federation investigation, continuing his strategy of trying to delegitimize the probe that has consumed him since his election.

"What motivated putting him in?" They did nothing. They were anxious that Trump refused to divest himself of his businesses or release his tax returns or health information. Nunes has threatened to hold senior Justice Department officials in contempt or even impeach them if he doesn't get his way. Giuliani asked Friday. "They clearly did not get incriminating information or we'd have found out about it by now". And why did they hide it for so long?

He said that Comey is "corrupt" and that the Yonkers, N.Y. native "can't keep his big mouth shut".

Jurgen Klopp and Mohamed Salah during training. "We will see in next years if Mo can go there". As I said to my team-mates, "We all play in the same and competition and we need to be one".

"The parallelism between what the Trump campaign was doing and saying and what the Russians were doing and saying was remarkably parallel, particularly when it came to attacks on Hillary Clinton, all her alleged physical and mental maladies, and there was nearly an echo chamber between the two", Clapper told CNN's Dana Bash.

This is not the first time Trump has made broad claims about the investigation. But former Federal Bureau of Investigation and Justice Department officials say that the use of what they call "confidential human sources" is governed by strict legal guidelines and that nothing untoward appears to have occurred. Meanwhile, the White House handed out classified information on the professor to Republican political leaders even while decrying the "politicization" of intelligence. "They also conveyed the president's understanding of the need to protect human intelligence services and the importance of communication between the branches of government".

Nonetheless, Giuliani said the Trump camp wants access to the material presented at those briefings to help prepare the president for a possible interview with Mueller.

"He's not the subject or target of that investigation".

Asked whether he thought the investigation is legitimate, Giuliani said "not anymore". "I hereby demand" seemed fit for a presidential proclamation, elevating Trump's direct command to a level above his many prior hints that he would like the Justice Department to prosecute his political enemies.

Giuliani also said the president would wait to decide on whether to sit down for an interview with Mueller until after they have seen a report on the briefings.

One person familiar with the situation said that Trump told aides Wednesday, including Kelly, that he wanted the meeting to appear above board and nonpartisan, and to make sure Democrats are able to view the intelligence so they can't accuse the White House of playing games.

"They were spying on - a term I don't particularly like but - what the Russians were doing", Clapper said.
