Gowdy, who told CBS he has never met nor spoken to Trump, shared the president's frustrations surrounding the recusal of Sessions from any inquiries into Russian interference into the election.

After attending classified Justice Department briefings last week about the Federal Bureau of Investigation informant, "I am even more convinced that the Federal Bureau of Investigation did exactly what my fellow citizens would want them to do when they got the information they got, and that it has nothing to do with Donald Trump", House Oversight Committee Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) told Fox News host Martha MacCallum on Tuesday night.

CNN's Alisyn Camerota on Wednesday hammered Conservative Political Action Conference head Matt Schlapp over his "Spygate" claim, asking the ardent Donald Trump supporter if he's "practicing selective hearing" in order to back the president's unsubstantiated attacks on the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Trump, according to The New York Times, has said he needs an attorney general to protect him.

And the Federal Bureau of Investigation was doing just that when it sent a confidential informant to meet with three Trump campaign aides in 2016, Gowdy said.

It was at Mar-a-Lago the next evening that Mr. Trump brought up the Russian Federation investigation with Mr. Sessions and asked him to change his mind about stepping aside, the people said.

You can see video of Gowdy's interview here. "If I were the president and I picked someone to be the country's chief law enforcement officer and they told me later, 'oh by the way I'm not going to be able to participate on the most important case in the office, ' I would be frustrated too", Gowdy said on "CBS This Morning".

Behind the Push to Name Ireland’s Abortion Legislation ‘Savita’s Law’
It outlawed all abortions until 2014, when the procedure started being allowed in rare cases when a woman's life was in danger. Women and men wearing "Repeal" tops and "Yes" badges waved Irish flags and placards reading "Thank you", with love hearts on.

"I am even more convinced that the Federal Bureau of Investigation did exactly what my fellow citizens would want them to do when they got the information they got, and that it has nothing to do with Donald Trump", Gowdy told Fox News on Tuesday evening.

The confrontation, which has not been previously reported, is being investigated by the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, as are the president's public and private attacks on Mr. Sessions and efforts to get him to resign. A Fox News guest, commentator and anchor all rebuked claims from the president and his allies that the Federal Bureau of Investigation planted a "spy" in his campaign in an effort to undercut his candidacy.

"Whenever you get any kind of an informer anywhere near a campaign, there has to be an assurance that it was not political or partisan in nature", Dershowitz said.

"I have always said, 'I think you ought to sit down. you've told us publicly there was no collusion, there was no obstruction, ' " Gowdy said.

On his Fox News show Tuesday night, the conservative commentator stood behind Trump's baseless "Spygate" claims, saying "Robert Mueller's out-of-control Russian Federation probe has now lost all sense of legitimacy".

Trump has crossed the line time and again for the goal of throwing suspicion on investigators, investigating political enemies, providing highly confidential information to his congressional allies and seeking to protect himself and his associates.
