Assassin’s Creed Odyssey leaks: is this the sequel to Origins?

Unless Ubisoft breaks from tradition and waits until early next year to release it, chances are that we will see Odyssey at E3 2018 this year ahead of a fall 2018 launch. It'll be interesting to see what Ubisoft does with an Assassin's Creed game set in ancient Greece, as it's been an enduring setting across pretty much all forms of entertainment. Insiders claim that the new game will be out in less than a year and will have new gameplay elements. Here's when all the shows featuring PC games will be streaming live.

Now, the next Assassin's Creed is on its way, entitled Assassin's Creed: Odyssey - as first leaked via a Wal-Mart listing and a promotional keychain, of all things, then confirmed by the studio itself. The keyring in question seemed to confirm the Greek setting for the game, which had been part of rumours dating back to January. Personally, the high points of the series for me remain Assassin's Creed III and Black Flag, the latter of which brought the delightful possibility of sea-traveling to the series. It also isn't a surprise to see Ubisoft look at other ancient civilizations, as Assassin's Creed Origins - which was set in ancient Egypt - did a lot of revitalize the franchise. Players will once again be able to choose between going through the game as either a male or female protagonist.

With Assassin's Creed Origins past year, Ubisoft proved that their time off with the series was well earned. According to the report, Odyssey is a sequel to Origins, but won't be staring Bayek. Not that Assassin's games haven't been hits before - it's one of the studio's biggest franchises - but common understanding was that an annual release strategy had run the series into the ground.
