Putin Summit Is the Right Move

President Donald Trump's top economic adviser says Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau "really kind of stabbed us in the back" when Trudeau said at the end of the Group of Seven summit that Canada wouldn't be pushed around by the USA and its trade tariffs.

Dismissing everything you might have heard from Sean Hannity, you have to ask yourself, "What the fuck does Putin have on Trump?"

Putin said on Sunday he thought it was important that the two men meet and said he shared Trump's concerns about the risks of an arms race developing between Russian Federation and the United States, something he said officials from the two countries needed to discuss.

Mr Putin spoke during a meeting ahead of a summit in Beijing featuring their two countries and six Asian states.

'As soon as the USA side is ready, the meeting will take place, depending, of course, on my working schedule'.

But in a sign of the attempt to lighten the mood, Freeland also said the first leaders' working session with Trump on the state of the world economy was a rich and productive discussion.

But both nations have touted their nuclear supremacy.

China and Russian Federation pledged to support each other on key global issues during a summit in Beijing on Friday, as the two sides hailed an "all-time high" in bilateral ties amid strained relations with the US.

Heather Conley, director of the Europe program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, said Trump seems to draw no distinction between allies who share the USA values of market economics and democracy, and adversaries who do not, and in the process he's upending decades of American foreign policy.

Yet it was his abrupt call to reinstate Russian Federation — kicked out of what was formerly the G-8 over its annexation of Crimea several years ago — that seemed to come out of nowhere.

China and Russian Federation have been moving closer amid heightened tensions between Beijing and Washington on economic and military fronts, and as Moscow struggles with US-led sanctions.

President Trump Heads to G-7 Summit Amid Tension Over Tariffs
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said on Thursday that Trump will attend the G-7 but will depart early. When asked if Trudeau took it as a joke, CNN's source said, "To the degree one can ever take what is said as a joke".

Trudeau said he and Trump have disagreed over Trump's call for Canada to open up its supply management system, which protects dairy, poultry and eggs farmers, during the hard ongoing renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement.

"The president has inexplicably shown our adversaries the deference and esteem that should be reserved for our closest allies", McCain said.

Trump is scheduled to address the USA news media at 10 a.m. EDT on Saturday. And French President Emmanuel Macron this week threatened to drop the United States from the group's final agreement altogether.

Joel Rubin, a deputy assistant secretary of state in the Obama administration, said the dual moves were "completely antithetical" to America's foreign policy objectives.

On Saturday, Trump repeated his desire to have a sunset clause in an updated NAFTA deal, a demand Trudeau rejected again.

European Council President Donald Tusk expressed broad concern about Trump's opposition to the global rules-based order, because it "is being challenged, quite surprisingly, not by the usual suspects but by its main architect and guarantor, the U.S". "That's what weak, dishonest Justin Trudeau did, and that comes right from Air Force One".

"Our position has not changed (on Russia)", said Adam Austen, spokesman for Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Chrystia Freeland.

On Saturday, U.S. Sen. Trudeau responded by saying the North American Free Trade Agreement was "in good shape", despite the fact that talks around renegotiating that deal have largely stalled.

He descended on the small Canadian town of La Malbaie to as frigid a welcome as an American president has ever seen from the longtime allies.

Before the two leaders went behind closed doors, someone shouted a question at the prime minister to ask if he was disappointed the president meant to leave the summit early on Saturday.
