Reports of a minor explosion inside Southgate Tube Station

Police have been called to reports of an explosion at a London Tube station.

'We are not aware of any serious injury'.

Police advised people to avoid the area around the station.

British Transport Police (BTP) initially tweeted Southgate Tube station was closed "whilst officers respond to a suspicious package".

Trains are now not stopping at Southgate Tube station due to concerns over the suspicious package.

A Twitter user with the handle @nakzokulah posted: "I was at Southgate Station when this commotion started".

The Football Association indicates it is a precautionary measure and manager Gareth Southgate called it a "slight knock" upon England's arrival.

Police say no cause has yet been established. "Saw one person coming out on a stretcher".

"The police moved us on, but they said there was an explosion in the station", he said.

Darren Yarlett, 36, was driving home in Southgate but police had cordoned off roads near the station.

In their latest statement, several hours after the incident, The Metropolitan Police said: "The scene has been examined by specialist officers".

According to the Guardian, the police services investigating the inciden included Scotland Yard's counter terrorism command.

Enquires are ongoing to establish the "full facts", a Met spokesman added.
