The Houston Rockets star was voted the NBA's Most Valuable Player after twice being runner-up, beating out four-time victor LeBron James and Anthony Davis of the Pelicans at the NBA Awards on Monday night.

James Harden of the Houston Rockets is the NBA's Most Valuable Player.

Harden is only the second player in National Basketball Association history to win the MVP and Sixth Man of the Year awards in their career (Bill Walton was the other).

The Rockets guard landed the prestigious award Monday after averaging 30.4 points, 8.8 assists and 5.4 rebounds in 2017-18, playing an integral role in his side being the number one seed in the Western Conference. Harden is the third player in Rockets history to win the award, and he is the first since Hakeem Olajuwon won in 1994.

The five-time All-Star earned first-team All-NBA honors for the second year in a row after finishing second in points per game (28.1) and player efficiency rating (28.98), while also coming in at fifth in rebounds (11.1) and first in blocks (2.6). "I'll see you all next year".

Brazil learn World Cups are different, as Neymar deals with pressure
Earlier this week, Neymar had to leave practice, but Tite and Brazilian officials are confident the star will start on Friday. Jesus had a quiet game against Switzerland in the 1-1 draw on Sunday and was replaced by Roberto Firmino in the second half.

Boston Celtics' Jayson Tatum is the other finalist for the Rookie of the Year award and notably did better than both Simmons and Mitchell in the postseason as he thrived in the absence of Kyrie Irving to take the Cavaliers the distance in the Eastern Conference Finals, albeit in a losing effort.

Harden's award will undoubtedly cause more debate to occur in the coming days due to James' similarly-incredible campaign.

Lou Williams of the Los Angeles Clippers took Sixth Man honors. He led the league in fourth-quarter points and scoring average. He has since become coach of the Detroit Pistons. Houston general manager Daryl Morey was also named Executive of the Year. Before Thunder star Russell Westbrook averaged a triple-double in the past two seasons, Robertson was the most recent player to average a triple-double - in the 1961-62 season.

Oscar Robertson was presented with the NBA's 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award.
