Wimbledon 2018: Serena Williams Receives Even More Support To Be Seeded

U.S. Open will factor maternity leave into seedings

The Wimbledon Championships start July 2nd, and one of the most interesting stories is Serena Williams' return from pregnancy.

"I just don't think it's right to think that way".

She is now ranked at No. 183 for ladies singles matches. Williams played her first Grand Slam for over a year at the French Open last month, reaching the fourth round before a shoulder injury forced her to quit ahead of her clash with old rival Maria Sharapova. "Maybe she's 25 and she wants to have a baby, but she doesn't want her career to be over".

That's the situation for Williams, who was not given a seeded spot by French Open officials.

The American did not play at the lawn competition last year as she was heavily pregnant although she remains the favourite this year in the eyes of many despite her lack of time on court.

Tennis legend John McEnroe also showed his support to Williams, despite the duo's differences previous year due to a spat over whether she could defeat a player on the men's circuit.

Brazil learn World Cups are different, as Neymar deals with pressure
Earlier this week, Neymar had to leave practice, but Tite and Brazilian officials are confident the star will start on Friday. Jesus had a quiet game against Switzerland in the 1-1 draw on Sunday and was replaced by Roberto Firmino in the second half.

Serena Williams appears at an event to launch a national street art campaign with Allstate Foundation Purple Purse to make domestic violence and financial abuse visible, at TicTail Market, June 20, 2018, in NY. But Williams has made only a tentative return to action following complications during daughter Alexis Olympia's birth. Why in the world would they want to play her in the first, second, third round?

"You know, I think it's great".

"I think she is competitive, her level and fitness is back".

"I think so [on Williams going far]".

'Out of respect to my fellow competitors and to the Wimbledon Championship I will not be able to compete in good shape and in good health and I had to take a tough decision and give my back the necessary rest and treatment for the next couple of weeks'.

This means that expecting mothers who take a break from the tennis world for their pregnancy won't slide way down in rank just because of a break from the game. It's thus clear that Serena's pregnancy situation is affecting her betting odds, which might present value.
