The Times reported that the two sides officially settled all of their claims against one another on Wednesday, bringing an end to a long, drawn-out battle over phone technology in which Apple even tried to block Samsung phones from reaching the market.

After the filing, "all remaining claims and counterclaims in this case are hereby dismissed with prejudice, to the extent such are still pending, and all parties shall bear their own attorneys' fees and costs", Justice Lucy Koh wrote in her order today. Samsung did not immediately return a request for comment. In a previous publicised settlement over patents with HTC, Apple didn't disclose settlement terms. However, it did not specify the exact terms of the settlement made.

Apple ignited the smartphone revolution with iPhone and it is a fact that Samsung blatantly copied our design.

Apple has not responded to a request for comment on the settlement and Samsung declined.

The lawsuit started in 2011, when Apple alleged that Samsung's Nexus Android phones infringed on Apple's patents, trademarks, user interface and style.

Iceland got a lifeline in the 82nd minute with a VAR-awarded penalty but dead-ball specialist Gylfi Sigurdsson blazed over the bar.

"This case has always been about more than money", the statement read. Samsung would eventually be ordered to pay Apple $539m in damages, but not before the case went all the way to the Supreme Court and back. "It is important that we continue to protect the hard work and innovation of so many people at Apple".

The Apple Inc. logo is shown outside the company's Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco, California, U.S., June 13, 2016.

The three design patents in the case apply to the shape of the iPhone's black screen with rounded edges and a bezel, and the rows of colorful icons displayed.

Samsung had previously paid Apple $548 million, of which $399 million was for products that infringed the design patents plus more for infringing a utility patent that was not at issue in the retrial, according to a Bloomberg report.
