The Lakers Have Renounced Julius Randle

New Orleans was hoping to re-sign Rondo, but he agreed to a one-year, $9 million deal with the Lakers on Monday. He averaged a career-high 16.1 points previous year to go with 8 rebounds per game.

The Lakers originally gave him a qualifying offer, which made Randle a restricted free agent. Once the Lakers began signing Lance Stephenson and JaVale McGee on Sunday night, Randle saw the writing on the wall in Los Angeles.

National Basketball Association insider Adrian Wojnarowski first reported the news.

Randle had a breakout season in 2017-18. Players and teams are free to negotiate and agree on new contracts, but they can't officially sign them until Friday morning PT.

The Pelicans lost Rajon Rondo to the Lakers earlier on Monday.

The 32-year-old Rajon Rondo is expected to compete for position with Lakers young gun Lonzo Ball.

Hawks pick Slovenia's Doncic at No. 3, pending trade
But that's what most experts say about European players, right? An accomplished scorer, Doncic possesses tremendous potential. But I have a feeling Cuban will make more moves when free agency rolls along this July. "I'm not sure what position he is".

JUST 24 hours after the basketballing world learned that LeBron James would be joining the LA Lakers, news broke that the entire competition has become meaningless.

By adding Rondo, the Lakers got a skilled ball handler and great defender who is not known as a great perimeter shooter. He also has played for the Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks, Sacramento Kings and Chicago Bulls. A short time after, Cousins agreed to a one-year deal with the champion Golden State Warriors in one of the most shocking free agent moves in recent memory.

The Laker experiment this season is going to be fascinating to watch.

By renouncing their rights to Randle, the Lakers parted ways with their longest-tenured player.

The former seventh overall pick would join a frontcourt rotation that includes All-NBA big man Anthony Davis and Nikola Mirotic.

Randle, 23, was the last player on the roster to have played with Kobe Bryant, who retired following the 2015-16 season.
