The Latest: Schumer chides Trump for heated rhetoric on Iran

Tensions are mounting between Donald Trump and Iran - the USA president's raw tweet threatening Tehran was met Monday with a similarly bilious reply, upping the ante in the high-stakes game of diplomatic chicken.

Most Republicans have stayed silent on Iran following Trump's all-caps tweet warning the terrorist nation against threatening the USA again, but Graham came out in support of Trump for taking a tough stance.

"If America wants to take a serious step in this direction it will definitely be met with a reaction and equal countermeasures from Iran", he was quoted as saying by the state news agency IRNA.

While animosity toward Iran's officials has been a part of the administration's foreign policy from the start, President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo have sharpened their rhetoric.

"This is a moment in history".

Trump's tweet is a response to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani's speech Sunday, in which Rouhani warned the United States president not to "twist the lion's tail". Or when the U.S. Navy fired warning shots at speedy Iranian military boats.

In May, Trump - who has made Iran his public enemy number one - announced the United States withdrawal from what he called a "defective" multinational nuclear deal with Tehran, and moved to reinstate punishing sanctions.

Tensions between Tehran and Washington have escalated to the highest level in a decade, after both Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and U.S. President Donald Trump threatened each other in bone-chilling terms over recent days.

I think the Renault and Honda engines are very close, maybe with a small advantage for us. Hamilton has put pen to paper on a bumper new contract.

The rising tensions between the two countries comes after Mr Trump cancelled a much-criticised treaty his predecessor Barack Obama signed with Iran in 2015 to stop it developing nuclear weapons.

"Their message is that the place is on the verge of overthrowing the Islamic Republic, which has been a claim for the last 40 years and that they, in particular, are the logical democratic, pluralistic replacement. Empty/ridiculous U.S. rhetoric in response to same from Iran".

"The reality is he's such an erratic President that you could see him dropping bombs on Iran or you could see him trying to build hotels in Iran", said Karim Sadjadpour, an Iran expert at the Carnegie Endowment.

"We've been around for millennia & seen fall of empires, [including] our own, which lasted more than the life of some countries". Analysts say activists inside Iran see a connection between the global tensions and the worsening economics.

In touting his defense build-up, Trump also maintained tough talk toward Iran and others.

The politician added that the U.S. has not only withdrawn from Iran nuclear deal rather they are leaving other fundamental rights organizations and they are also withdrawing from everything wherever there is a vote against murder, mass slaughter and genocide of the Palestinian nation.

U.S. attempts to block Iranian oil exports will not be left unanswered, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi added.
