A Lunar Eclipse (Chandra Grahan) is when one can't see the moon at night because its position is relative to the sun and earth ensures that light doesn't fall on the part of it we can see.

The totality, which, you may recall, is when the Earth's shadow covers the moon and casts the world into darkness, will last one hour and 43 minutes.

It won't be visible in the USA, but can be seen in parts of Africa, the Middle East, Europe, South America, Australia and Asia - depending on the weather.

A lunar eclipse is when the sunlight's path to the moon is blocked by the Earth, with the moon falling in the Earth's shadow.

The Earth's shadow passing over the moon.

At about 8.30pm the earth began to pass between the setting sun and the moon casting its shadow across the surface. But a small amount of light does actually pass through the outer parts of the Earth's atmosphere and reflect off the moon. And, of course, there are areas across the world where the eclipse will not be visible at all, such as North America.

In a rare celestial display, a red moon will rise above the horizon tomorrow, July 27, in the longest total lunar eclipse seen this century.

Those who live in the Middle East, eastern Africa, southern Asia and India will have the best views of the spectacle. Interestingly, the August 6/7, 2036 eclipse will not have almost as long a totality as the June 25/26, 2029 total lunar eclipse, where totality will last for 102 minutes.

"And the density of dust increasing in the atmosphere can cause the moon to appear a particularly deep red, and indeed it has the same effect on our sunsets and sunrises".

Roma agree deal to sign Brazilian winger Malcom from Bordeaux
LaLiga champions FC Barcelona have confirmed the signing of Bordeaux winger Malcom in a deal worth €41 million. He is, however, set to continue his development in Catalunya as he prepares to enter into a five-year deal.

And yes, you'll likely hear this eclipse being referred to as the "blood moon". While they will show the entire eclipse, if you're looking for totality, it occurs from 3:30 p.m. ET to 5:13 p.m. ET.

The probability of a simultaneous blood moon and total lunar eclipse is very low, reports say.

The longest total lunar eclipse of the 21st century will take place this week, on Thursday, June 26 into Friday, June 27.

Photographer James Morgan managed to capture the blood moon perfectly through the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

What time does Friday's lunar eclipse start?

"Mars will look like this lovely bright red star just below the Moon", said Prof O'Brien.

According to NASA scientists: "The exact colour that the moon appears depends on the amount of dust and clouds in the atmosphere". Join Miguel here as he takes us through his photograph "Total Lunar Eclipse of 2015".
