Charlotte Rae Dies: Mrs. Garrett from 'The Facts of Life' Dead at 92

Her cause of death has not been confirmed, but in 2017, she did reveal that she was suffering from pancreatic and bone cancer.

Industry notables also expressed their appreciation for Rae and her role as the no-nonsense but gentle house mother on "The Facts of Life".

Rae starred in the series for seven seasons as a kooky mentor to the students at a fictional all-girls boarding school. Rae left after its seventh year, however, explaining later, "I needed some time for the rest of my life".

The Facts of Life role came after years of theatre and television performances. Rae also earned an Emmy nomination for her role in the 1975 special Queen of the Stardust Ballroom. Her last TV credit was a 2015 episode of Girl Meets World.

The actress released a memoir in 2015 called "The Facts of My Life" in which she recounted the challenges faced by her family.

Mindy Cohn and Kim Fields, who played members of Mrs. Garrett's brood, recalled her lovingly.

"Sorry, no words at the moment just love and tears... and yeah, smiles".

"She was so sweet, funny, wise, lovely, and brilliant.' tweeted Audra of a photo of herself and Charlotte, adding: 'She will be so missed".

Celebrated stage and screen actress Charlotte Rae died on Sunday at her home in Los Angeles.

According to TMZ, Rae also appeared in "The Love Boat", "101 Dalmatians: The Series", "Sesame Street", "Car 54, Where Are You?". The actress got recognized for the 1966 musical "Pickwick" and 1969 play "Morning, Noon and Night". She played the maid of a rich white businessman (Conrad Bain) who adopted two young black brothers (Gary Coleman and Todd Bridges).

In 1978, Rae was cast as Diff'rent Strokes housekeeper Edna Garrett, a role which would go on to define her career.

Rae stayed busy with film and stage appearances, including 1971's "Bananas" from Woody Allen and 1979's "Hair". She said he disclosed to her he was bisexual and wanted an open marriage.

Rae is survived by her sister, her son, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
