Salomon Rondon's arrival on loan from West Brom is believed to be imminent with Dwight Gayle expected to go the other way.

Venezuelan global Rondon may not be the most prolific striker, hitting just 24 goals in 108 Premier League games for the Baggies, but he has the physicality and work rate Benitez is looking for.

Even many Manchester United fans can now find a soft spot for the former Liverpool manager, who currently finds himself struggling to cope with life at Newcastle.

Rondon, 28, scored seven Premier League goals last season as the Baggies dropped out of the top-flight.

The Venezuelan worldwide becomes Newcastle's sixth summer signing following the arrivals of Martin Dubravka, Kenedy, Ki Sung-yueng, Fabian Schar and Yoshinori Muto.

"He, together with Yoshinori Muto, will give us different options, and will improve the competition between the strikers, which is always positive for the team".
