"Of course we didn't sell players and with 25 players in the squad it's hard to add".

Mauricio Pochettino ended last season seemingly hopeful of retaining the bulk of his squad but also keen to bring in some new box office players to light up the club's new stadium.

With the Premier League transfer market closing at 1600 GMT, Tottenham are set to be the only top-flight side not to make a signing since the end of last season.

However, what is obvious is that if Jack Grealish does gain almost a triple-your-money pay rise, he's got Spurs' hesitancy to say thank you to.

When asked about his previous comments, Pochettino said the fact the club was able to keep stars like Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min while spending £1bn on a new stadium and redeveloping their training ground was "brave".

"Of course it's hard to understand for people that Tottenham didn't sign or sell players, but sometimes in football you need to behave differently".

" "It's not about adding because it's fashionable".

China's July exports rise more than expected despite USA tariffs
For instance, the major complaint is about the theft of United States intellectual property by Chinese firms. That was off slightly from June's 13.6% rate but still stronger than China's global export growth.

"We believe a lot in our players and why not repeat a similar season like past year or the season before, and with more experience?" [It's about] if you really need [them] or not and then if you can get your target or not.

"Our targets are always in the same level of Real Madrid or Manchester United or Manchester City, but for different circumstances we can not achieve that".

Of course, we are open to improving but if you can't improve the most important is to keep your best team and players.

"And then with Brexit it is worse because the cost is 30% more, and then keep the best players".

"If we are happy with our squad and can not improve our squad, sometimes it's better to keep our squad together".

Paul Merson is backing Tottenham Hotspur to finish in fourth place ahead of Arsenal in the Premier League table this season. I am so proud about them because they were very focused on trying to arrive in a very good condition. That's normal. Some players will be fit to start the game.

"Then to keep the best players is to be courageous". Maybe we have different principles.
