WALL FAIL: Melania's Parents Become US Citizens

President Trump has decried the policy that allows US citizens to sponsor their parents and siblings for legal residency.

Viktor and Amalija Knavs, First Lady Melania Trump's parents, 73 and 71 years old respectively, were sworn in as USA citizens in a private service on Thursday, their immigration attorney Michael Wildes announced.

Viktor and Amalija Knavs, both in their 70s, attending a private swearing-in ceremony in Manhattan, according to their lawyer, Michael Wildes, who said the couple had "travailed a wonderful journey" to become Americans. Now that the couple are USA citizens, it's important to note the president's hypocrisy when it comes to immigration policies.

Family-based immigration has been a frequent target of the president in his many tweets and speeches. Security guards and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services workers in offices adorned with President Trump's portrait said they were unaware of anyone being sworn in there on Thursday. "Some people come in, and they bring their whole family with them, who can be truly evil".

Amalija is 73. The first lady, born Melanija, changed her name to Melania Knauss when she started modelling.

Under US law they must have been permanent residents for five years before applying to become citizens, and the time to process an application can take several months thereafter. They had been living in the U.S.as permanent residents. Citizenship for Melania Trump's parents have set tongues wagging.

Actor Steven Seagal appointed Russian ministry’s ‘special representative’
For more than a decade Seagal, who according to his own website is 66, has been a regular visitor to Russian Federation . The actor who is also a Russian citizen, confirmed the appointment on his Instagram page on Monday.

The ceremony has prompted questions about Donald Trump's flagrant disregard for practising what he preaches, as the First Lady's parents obtained citizenship through a policy he has vocally denounced. According to news reports, Melania came to the United States in 2001 on a so-called Einstein visa for "individuals of extraordinary ability" as a model.

Viktor Knavs is 74, two years older than his son-in-law.

Typically, naturalization ceremonies at the Jacob J. Javits Federal Building at 26 Federal Plaza are large events, where groups of immigrants are sworn in as citizens en masse, after reciting an oath and the Pledge of Allegiance.

Melania grew up in a two bedroom apartment in Sevnica, a small city formerly under communist control. Viktor, 74, was a vehicle dealer while Amalija, 73, worked in a textile factory.

She settled in NY in 1996 and met Trump two years later. "We saw an example of that today".
