This Weekend Is The Perseid Meteor Show - Viewing Conditions Will Be Perfect

The Perseids showcase more bright meteors than any other annual meteor shower.

What is the best way for you to watch this year?

This year forecasters say we could see anywhere from 60-70 meteors per hour but during outburst years (like 2016) the rate can be between 150-200 meteors per hour.

The Perseid meteor shower can be seen with the naked eye from places without light and environment pollution (clear sky), and darker places, from midnight to dawn.

According to the Sun, the cosmic event, nicknamed the "fiery tears of Saint Lawrence", occurs when the Earth moves through the trail of debris left by the Swift-Tuttle Comet.

A stunning, natural spectacle is set to light up night skies across the world this weekend, and those living in Dubois County should have a good seat to the show.

This year, the peak of the shower should be out of this world.

North Korea: US Sanctions Pressure ‘Outdated Acting Script’
The UN Security Council first imposed sanctions on North Korea after its first nuclear test in 2006. The United States was "attempting to invent a pretext for increased sanctions against the DPRK".

The shower that we see from Earth is the little bits of ice and dust - that are usually no bigger than a pea - hitting the Earth's atmosphere at a staggering 134,000 miles per hour. They will appear to be coming from the constellation Perseus.

Daytime heating caused some instability to our north this afternoon with showers and thunderstorms mostly in the U.P. but a few showers did make their way into Northeast Wisconsin.

A number of planets will also be highly visible.

Here are 5 facts to know about the Perseid meteor 2018.

The key to seeing a meteor is to take in as much sky as possible.

Allow about 20 minutes for your eyes to adjust to the dark. Sunday night looks to be the best night with mainly clear skies overhead.

If you happen to be camping at a Provincial Park you likely picked the best weekend of the year.
