In a statement, Prime Minister Imran Khan, a bitter rival to the Sharifs whose PTI handily beat the outgoing PML-N at a general election in July, said Nawaz Sharif and his daughter would be "provided all facilities that they are entitled to under law".

"My sister-in-law and Nawaz Sharif's wife Kulsoom Nawaz has passed away", he tweeted.

The party decision to nominate her in the by-election to fill Nawaz Sharif's seat surprised many who were expecting the ousted PM to promote his daughter Maryam as his political heir.

But life as a politician in her own right was not to be for Ms Nawaz.

Her family was known for wrestling.

They are now serving jail terms of 10 and seven years, respectively, at Rawalpindi's Adiala jail, as well as being fined $10.5m and $2.6m each.

The government has made a decision to free Nawaz, Maryam and Safdar on parole so that they can attend the final rites of the former first lady on Friday. "I will attend Kulsoom Bibi's funeral", he said.

Her husband and daughter, Maryam, are both in jail in Pakistan.

Complying with the previous leaks, the iPhone 9 flaunts a single rear camera setup, similar to the iPhone 8. At the moment, Apple has only confirmed a September 12 launch in Cupertino, California.

Moreover, Dar's passports have also been cancelled and he has been put on the National Accountability Bureau's (NAB) blacklist. PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif will be proceeding to London to bring Kulsoom's body to Pakistan.

After receiving the certificates, the Sharif family will register the death in a registrar office in the local Westminster council.

The former first lady had been undergoing cancer treatment at a Harley Street clinic in London since August previous year after she was diagnosed with early-stage lymphoma.

The 68-year-old three-time former first lady was diagnosed with early-stage lymphoma in August last year and had been since then in London where she underwent multiple surgeries. On June 15, she was placed on ventilator support after she suffered a cardiac arrest.

Both her sons Hassan and Hussain reside in the United Kingdom and cared for her while Nawaz and Maryam attended near daily hearings of the corruption trial. "Whatever the legal facilitation is available (for Nawaz Sharif and Maryam), we have conveyed to them (the family)", he said.

Khan termed the former first lady a "brave woman".

Born into a Kashmiri family in Pakistan's Punjab, Kulsoom graduated from the Forman Christian College University.
