Amazon’s Jeff Bezos Knocked Trump for His ‘Dangerous’ Criticism of the Media

During the discussion, Bezos expressed disapproval with President Trump's attacks on the mainstream media.

Bezos reiterated the company's timetable for announcing the winning city during a talk Thursday evening at the Economic Club of Washington, DC, but he didn't hint at which city he's leaning toward.

His private ownership of The Washington Post, which has published articles critical of the White House, has also put him at odds with US President Donald Trump.

"All big institutions of any kind will be and should be scrutinized", Bezos said.

"It's risky to demonize the media", Bezos said. "It's unsafe to say they're the enemy of the people".

The Bezos Day One Fund will be made up of the Families Fund and the Academics Fund.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) last week introduced the Stop Bad Employers by Zeroing Out Subsidies (BEZOS) Act, which would require Amazon to pay a 100 percent tax on the federal benefits collected by their lower-income employees. "The child will be the customer", he wrote in his post.

Bezos hasn't said how much he'll be contributing to the fund in coming years.

Tesla cuts number of stock colors to streamline production
Analysts say Tesla may struggle to raise cash until the dark cloud of an SEC investigation is lifted. On Monday, however, Tesla's stock bounced back after two positive analyst reports.

The "Bezos Day One Fund" created by Bezos and his wife MacKenzie will focus on two areas: helping "existing nonprofits that help homeless families" and funding "a network of new, nonprofit, tier-one preschools in low-income communities", he wrote.

The Day 1 Academies Fund will launch and operate a network of high-quality, full-scholarship, Montessori-inspired pre-schools in low-income and underserved communities, he said.

He said "we have made tremendous progress" in the search but offered no clues, despite reports that Amazon board members had visited locations in the Washington suburb of Arlington, Virginia.

Despite his concerns with Mr Trump, Mr Bezos said that he was not overly concerned about the future of the news media.

"We will have to leave this planet, and we're going to leave it", Bezos previously told GeekWire, "and it's going to make this planet better". The child will be the customer. "Bezos' response reflects the reality that people feel, which is that there are a lot of real problems not being addressed".

"We're hoping that local, state and federal governments see this as a call to invest more in preschool and childcare", he said.

Bezos, now the world's richest person, asked Twitter followers a year ago for ideas about how he should shape his "philanthropy strategy". "Frankly, philanthropy can't fund all of society's challenges".
