Cubs-Brewers Set For National League Tiebreaker

Fans. Who cares? I don't pay attention to it, but it's around.

The train stations in Chicago were packed Monday not just with morning commuters but also long lines of Milwaukee Brewers fans going to see the tie-breaking game for the NL Central title at Wrigley Field. They had six hits Tuesday night.

During those games - 21 of which have been starts - Lester has a 9-7 record but more impressively sports a 2.55 ERA.

It took four extra innings to decide Tuesday's National League Wildcard match, with Tony Wolters making the winning hit in the 13th. It was another very disappointing appearance, and I remarked that I'm not sure the Cubs could justify carrying him on a postseason roster at this point.

This will be the fourth time Lester has pitched in a "Win or Go Home" game in his playoff career and his second with the Cubs, although this will be his first start. That included a loss at Wrigley Field on April 30 in which he allowed three runs over seven innings.

Jansen recovered however to get the final three outs and wrap up the Dodgers sixth straight divisional title. The first two came off Erick Fedde , who lasted only four innings and threw 64 pitches before he was pulled.

Closer Pedro Strop was on the 25-man wild card roster submitted by the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday, marking his return from a hamstring injury.

Yet those defeats are distant memories for Cubs' players, many of whom weren't even in the league when they occurred. It was the only time this season Freeland has faced the Cubs.

"It's Jonny Lester, he's pitched in a few big games before, he's got a resume", said Anthony Rizzo of Lester. "We've got to go out there and have fun".

It's a criss-cross kind of trip and it's one that the Rockies hoped they weren't going to have to make.
