Shaw and Pujara added 206 runs for the second wicket as the tourists were sent on a leatherhunt for large parts of the second session.

18-year-old Prithvi Shaw made best use of the flat track to score a century on Test debut.

Indian batsmen Virat Kohli and Rishab Pant return to the pavilion after the end of the test cricket match played between India and West Indies, in Rajkot.

He was finally caught and bowled by leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo for 134 in the last over before the break.

He delivered the masterclass batting style in the first match against Windies.

More than half of his runs came through boundaries, 19 in total.

Shaw reached the landmark with two runs off paceman Keemo Paul, punching his fist in the air as the home crowd gave him a standing ovation.

Shaw, who is being touted as the next big thing in Indian cricket, has even been named in the 12-man squad that India had announced on the eve of the first Test and is likely to make his debut on Thursday. He is also the third fastest Test Hundred on Debut, however, the second youngest was Sachin Tendulkar.

"From the smaller age I used to play a lot of school cricket, 30 or 35 school games in a year", said Shaw, who had once scored a record 546 runs in school cricket. He became the 15th Indian player to do so and only the second player while playing at the opening.

Bangladesh batsman Mohammad Ashraful is the youngest debut Test centurion, followed by Zimbabwe's Hamilton Masakadza and Pakistan's Salim Malik. Meanwhile, Roach had to fly back to Barbados following the death of his grandmother.

Cheteshwar Pujara had earlier missed out on a hundred when he stroked 86 while Ajinkya Rahane chipped in with 41, as India recovered from the loss of opener KL Rahul in the first over without scoring, to collar the visitors' bowling attack.

While India is set to go with five bowlers, questions remain whether the Rajkot wicket-which has the history of offering bucketful of runs-will help the bowlers much.

Indian vice-captain Rahane though lost his cool against off-spinner Roston Chase to get caught behind in the final few overs of the day.
