A vote in the Senate on Friday will be a crucial test of support for Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court nomination.

If the procedural vote passes, the Senate could move to a final vote as early as Saturday, one month before the November 6 midterm elections.

"This is what democracy looks like!" protesters shouted outside the Supreme Court, voicing their opposition to Brett Kavanaugh's nomination to the high court but somehow speaking for everyone on every side on a day of passion, chaos and outcome. He was nominated by Trump to succeed retired Justice Anthony Kennedy, who was seen as a swing vote on the court.

The North Dakota senator defied warnings that opposing the judge could hurt her in an uphill race and said she would vote against Kavanaugh, even though it could expose her among the more conservative voters of her home state. The results of a Quinnipiac poll released on Monday show 48 percent of Americans are against the confirmation of Kavanaugh's nomination, while 42 percent are supportive.

As the U.S. Senate is expected to make its vote on Brett Kavanaugh, the judge spoke out for the first time following last week's hearing.

"An FBI supplemental background investigation that did not include an interview of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford - nor the witnesses who corroborate her testimony - can not be called an investigation", her legal team said in a statement.

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said he disagreed with the statement by Mr Grassley that the report found "no hint of misconduct" by Mr Kavanaugh.

After Kavanaugh and Ford testified in front of the committee last week, Keyser wrote a letter to the committee dated September 29 that said she did not refute Ford's claims, but "is unable to corroborate it because she has no recollection of the incident in question", according to CNN. He says he was, quote, "subjected to wrongful and sometimes vicious allegations" and that he, quote, "might have been too emotional at times" during his Senate hearing.

Three Republican Senators - Jeff Flake, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski - are being closely watched, as they have not yet said how they will vote.

Feinstein said those restrictions raised "serious concerns that this is not a credible investigation and begs the question: What other restrictions has the White House placed on the FBI?"

With Mr Kavanaugh's uncertain prospects for approval depending in part on the decisions of five wavering senators, politicians began viewing the document in a secure room in the Capitol complex.

But despite the nod toward conciliation, Kavanaugh continued to lament the treatment he had been subject to, criticizing the accusations he faced as "wrongful and sometimes vicious allegations". Kavanaugh was called back to testify about claims by Christine Blasey Ford, who has accused him of sexually assaulting her during a party in 1982 when they were high school students in suburban Maryland.

Republicans, meanwhile, were convinced that the reports would back up the judge's vehement denials, and they emerged more satisfied, saying the Federal Bureau of Investigation found "no hint" of evidence to back up the women's claims.

She claims Kavanaugh thrust himself into her face, forcing her to touch him in a private area - claims which he denies.

In his testimony, Kavanaugh complained about "a calculated and orchestrated political hit fueled with apparent pent-up anger about President Trump and the 2016 election".

Despite his performance, Kavanaugh said he can be counted on to be impartial as a judge. Only senators and authorized staff will be able to read them.

Several senators said 10 witnesses were interviewed for the report. Flake, a frequent Trump critic, was instrumental in getting the president to order the FBI investigation last Friday.

Would you like to get published on Standard Media websites? Judge has said he did not recall the events described by Ford and that he never saw Kavanaugh act in the manner that she describes.

Ford, who testified last week at a dramatic Judiciary Committee hearing, said a drunken Kavanaugh pinned her down, tried to remove her clothing and covered her mouth when she screamed.
