4 takeaways from Giants' Week 5 loss to Panthers

Gano came through, securing a 33-31 win over the New York Giants. Barkley finished with more receiving yards (81) than rushing (48) and scored twice through the air.

But there's also the not-so-good. There is hope: Eli Manning has been accurate for 74 percent completions, four TDs and just one pick-but he has ben sacked 15 times already for a total loss of 126 (!) yards.

Shepard and Manning would connect on a 40-yard pass to set up the Giants' touchdown that put them ahead 31-30 with under a minute left.

He broke four on his 18-yard carry, a reverse pitched to him by actual running back Christian McCaffrey.

And that's without mentioning the blown 11-point fourth quarter lead the team had, or the 14-point cushion that slipped away in the first half. Shurmur thinks that could give the defense a boost, saying "when you have a fresh body that has the talent, the skill and abilities of a pass rusher, it helps your defense. I publicly declared that I didn't agree with his comments", Shurmur said. "There were some good spots out there. But I'm, you know, I want to go over the top of somebody".

But that in itself masks some of the defense's other apparent deficiencies.

North Korea ready to allow inspectors into missile sites, Pompeo says
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says North Korea is ready to allow global inspectors to visit its nuclear and missile test sites. The trade war between China and the USA is however being seen as a barrier to co-operation in the North Korean crisis.

Six interceptions the past two games proves the Panthers are building a propensity for turnovers, but that hasn't directly correlated to overall defensive success. "The energy that he plays with, the physicality that he brings, we need that".

He missed time in training camp with a hamstring injury and later, just as he was beginning to contribute on offense and special teams, broke his ankle causing him to miss the final seven games, including the team's playoff game against New Orleans.

NY Giants running back Saquon Barkley is "fine" after getting injured in Sunday's game vs the Carolina Panthers. Manning went for 8 yards, then 12, then 40 - to former Panther Russell Shepard, at that - and then to Barkley for the 15-yard go-ahead touchdown. He has at least 100 all-purpose yards in all four of the Giants games and is second on the team in receptions with 27.

Moving the ball and scoring points has been a struggle this season for the Giants under Shula.

Some of this will mend itself. None of Reid's new Panthers teammates joined him or stood near him during his silent protest of racial and social injustice. This game has the potential to be much closer than its spread if the Giants put it all together, yet National Football League oddsmakers do not seem to expect that to happen here in Week 5.

"We did all right", he said. "He's really smart with those kinds of things and they do a nice job putting him in some of those kinds of situations". They have to redirect from what we're trying to accomplish.
