New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees topped Manning's mark of 71,940 yards Monday, accomplishing the feat in the latter's hometown of New Orleans, during a nationally televised game against the Washington Redskins.

Brees surpassed Peyton Manning's previous record of 71,940 yards with that touchdown connection, and it was a pretty special moment to behold in New Orleans.

With the game in hand, Payton subbed Brees off the field after the two-minute warning so the quarterback could have one more interaction with the appreciative crowd. He already owns records for career completion percentage (67.1-percent), passing yards per game (342.3), and consecutive seasons of 4,500 yards (7).

Naturally, plenty of sports figures took to social media to congratulate Brees on Monday night. "Thanks to you, that's over now".

"I love you guys so much", Brees said while hugging his three boys as Brittany held their daughter nearby. Manning threw 539 touchdowns in his career. He also received a rather humorous congratulatory message from Peyton Manning telling him that he held the record for 1,000 days and those were the happiest 1,000 days of his life until Brees ruined it. Brees was fourth on the list heading into Monday night at 496. "I think touchdowns probably has a little more meaning to a quarterback, because it means that you got six points, and it means you were doing something good for your team".
