David Price finally leads Red Sox to a postseason victory. Sort of

Another season-long issue for the Red Sox was their bullpen issues, but things were relatively in order Sunday night. He allowed three runs and got just five outs in Game 2 against the Yankees, the only Red Sox loss in the series.

The Red Sox had gone from two-run lead to two-run deficit in the third, and the Astros seemed poised to put a stranglehold on the series.

"We won. That's my first team win as a starter".

Gonzalez almost exited the game in the bottom of the third when he crashed into the Green Monster attempting to catch Pearce's fly ball that went for a double. Yankees slugger Aaron Judge blared "New York, New York" as the Yankees left Fenway Park after their Game 2 victory.

The series now pivots to Houston for the next three games, and Boston needs only to steal one to ensure another home contest this season. Beyond that, the Red Sox have concluded that in order to make it to the World Series, and win it, they need Price, a five-time All-Star, in the rotation. And with a few tweaks to strategy, it's not outrageous to suggest the Red Sox could match the quality of Houston's bullpen going forward. If he wants to run his mouth now we'll see who is talking at the end of the series. After Cole made a throwing error on a ground ball by Xander Bogaerts, he walked Steve Pearce to load the bases. The ball hit the top of his glove and bounced away for a double, putting two men in scoring position, and Rafael Devers drew a four-pitch walk to load the bases.

A head-to-head matchup of Price and Astros right-hander Gerrit Cole, both former No. 1 overall picks in the draft, ended with no clear victor. Bradley sliced an inside fastball down the line in left, with Gonzalez unable to play the carom and all three runners coming around to erase a 4-2 deficit. That brought Cora out of the dugout with the hook, and as Price handed over the ball and walked off the mound, the Fenway crowd mostly cheered in approval, numerous fans on their feet. "He's staying through it".

With Jay Ajayi Done, the Eagles Should Trade for Le'Veon Bell
Or, of course, they could try to pursue trades for other, cheaper running backs or simply sign an existing free agent. One of the top running backs, Steelers LeVeon Bell, may get traded even with his return set for Week 7.

Price said he appreciated the standing ovation, and said his only concern was that the Red Sox win the game. He gave Boston a 7-4 lead with an RBI double in the eighth. Sometimes people say guys with sinking stuff like his do worse with more rest but I feel like every time I've heard that for the past decade, a guy like him has either been just fine on extra rest or has gotten shelled on the allegedly good short rest they get. "And there's no sense in stopping (now)". After putting two on with two out in the fifth, Alex Cora gave Price the hook with a 5-4 lead, and brought Matt Barnes in to face Marwin Gonzalez.

The AL West champs tied it in the second on George Springer's two-run double down the right-field line.

"That's my first team win as a starter", Price said with a smirk. "But our offense, our defense, everybody rallied together".

Price followed it with a sharply hit double to Martin Maldonado - who came in to last night hitting.091 in the postseason - so that was definitely on him.

Gio Gonzalez (10-11, 4.21 ERA) vs.

"To me, in his mind, he's probably thinking he's trying to pump up his team, get everyone excited", said Swihart, who said he hadn't talked to Bregman about the post. "When Mookie's smiling, good things are happening".
