CARAVAN DEFIANT: Migrants 'Crash Gates,' Head into Mexico

Trump appears to threaten USMCA deal when lashing out at migrant caravan

Dozens of Mexican federal police officers were on the border bridge, with hundreds more behind them, after flying to the area this week on orders from Mexican officials, following a request by U.S. President Donald Trump to the presidents of Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras to stop the caravan.

On Thursday, the Mexican government asked the United Nations Refugee Agency for help in assisting migrants filing for refugee protection at the border, as Mr. Trump threatened to deploy the USA military and close the southern US border with Mexico if it doesn't stop what he described as an "onslaught" of migrants.

Mr Trump had already threatened on Tuesday to cut off millions of dollars of aid to Honduras if the country didn't prevent the thousands of people fleeing violence and poverty from reaching the US.

Anyone with appropriate travel documents and visas will be let into Mexico, while others will be allowed to apply for refugee status.

Travelling mostly on foot and using at least two different routes, several thousand people from Honduras have been moving through Guatemala this week, and they are now nearing Mexico.

Trump emphasized that if Mexico is unable to keep the caravan from entering the United States, then he will use the USA military, not the National Guard, to keep the caravan from coming into the country.

"We will offer jobs, work to Central Americans".

"A caravan of Central American migrants is making its way north", Judicial Watch warned in a statement Friday. Mexican police in riot gear pushed them back, setting off smoke canisters.

Some 400 Mexican Federal Police then sealed the Mexico border as drones and helicopters moved overhead of crowds, Weir reported.

Mexican Federal Police officers try to prevent Honduran migrants from crossing the border.

"The journey has been very tough, very hard but there's no work in Honduras", 20-year-old Glenda Salvador, a mother of two toddlers, told AFP earlier in the day as the migrants massed in the Guatemalan town of Tecun Uman, close to the bridge. They also said migrants caught without papers would be deported.

Trump reacted with equal contempt toward another group that embarked on a similar journey to the southern US border in the spring, warning that none of the migrants would be allowed to cross.

Participants in a 3,000-strong migrant caravan heading toward the United States have gathered in a park to wait a few more hours for members of the group who are still arriving.

"But we have also made very clear that there's no legal ground on which Mexico can issue a permit by which people can just go through Mexico towards the United States", he concluded.

".The assault on our country at our Southern Border, including the Criminal elements and DRUGS pouring in, is far more important to me, as President, than Trade or the USMCA".

"I want to get to the States to contribute to that country", Cristian said, "to do any kind of work, picking up garbage".

He has urged the Republicans to make immigration a central issue of important Congressional elections which take place in the United States next month.
