USA military weighs request for troops on Mexico border

Pentagon sends 800 troops to US-Mexico border as migrant caravan advances

Pentagon sends 800 troops to US-Mexico border as migrant caravan advances

Earlier on Thursday, the Pentagon announced that "several hundred" United States troops would be sent to the border to beef up security there.

Trump has expressed outrage over the caravan, describing it as an "assault" on the U.S. He has made a number of false or unsubstantiated claims about the migrants, including that Democrats have "led" the migrants and that "criminals and unknown Middle Easterners" are part of the caravan.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the preliminary estimate for troops.

Trump is weighing an executive order that would deny the immigrant caravan - which is about 900 miles away from the border - an opportunity to apply for asylum once they arrive, according to The Washington Post.

There are now 2,100 National Guardsmen along the border, but the DHS request could lead to the first large-scale deployment of active-duty USA military forces to support the border protection mission under Trump. Trump tweeted on Thursday. The intent of the email sent by one of the Border Patrol Landowner Liaison's was to provide the landowners within that specific area of responsibility a point of contact in case they encounter media or any unauthorized individuals on their respective properties.

Thousands of Central American migrants are now making their way through Mexico in hopes of reaching the United States.

Cowboys get Amari Cooper from Raiders for 1st-round pick
While the 33-year-old has flashed upside this season, it's going to be worth watching to see what he can do as the go-to receiver. After all, the Raiders find themselves playing from behind a fair amount and this should equate to even more looks for Nelson.

"To those in the Caravan, turnaround, we are not letting people into the United States illegally", he wrote. Most are Hondurans, seeking to escape the poverty and violence that plagues the region. National Guard troops can perform those same functions, so it was not immediately clear why active-duty forces were sought.

President Donald Trump has been tweeting about closing down the U.S. -Mexico border, and it appears it's more than just empty talk.

"I must, in the strongest of terms, ask Mexico to stop this onslaught", Trump tweeted.

Trump earlier this year ordered the deployment of National Guard members to the U.S. -Mexico border to respond to a spike in illegal border crossing. "They will not be allowed in".

The troops are part of a security operation that is expected to be up and running by October 30.

Trump hinted at the troop announcement at a rally in Wisconsin on Wednesday.
