Khashoggi murder: Body 'dissolved in acid'

Bill Gates cancels $5m aid to Saudi following Jamal Khashoggi’s murder

"Now we see that they did not only dismember his body but also vaporized it". His body has not been found, although Turkish police last month searched a forest on Istanbul's outskirts and near Yalova, a city near the Sea of Marmara, for Khashoggi's remains.

The murder has placed strain on the decades-old alliance between the United States and Saudi Arabia and tarnished the image of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the ultra-conservative kingdom's de facto ruler.

On Wednesday Turkey said he was strangled immediately after entering the consulate and his body dismembered "in accordance with plans made in advance".

Aktay's statement comes after the first official acknowledgement from the Istanbul chief prosecutor Irfan Fidan on Wednesday that Khashoggi's body was "dismembered and destroyed" after his death at the hands of a team of Saudi officials who flew in from Riyadh to kill him.

Turkey's justice minister on Thursday said the country wants Saudi authorities to reveal the whereabouts of the body of the murdered journalist, who was killed last month in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

Turkey is trying to extradite 18 suspects detained in Saudi Arabia so they can be tried in a Turkish court.

"Khashoggi's body was not in need of burying", the official told the U.S. newspaper on the condition of anonymity.

Not my start in Game 2 and coming out of the bullpen in Game 3 and all that, but this one right here - being World Series champs. They thrived in their role, and Cora not only looks like a genius, but a genius who will soon have another World Series ring.

"They aimed to ensure no sign of the body was left", said Aktay, who was a friend of the dissident Saudi writer.

Saudi Arabia has denied the reports in the Washington Post and New York Times.

The two sides discussed a wide range of topics including Israel, Palestine and Saudi Arabia's relations with the US.

Saudi Arabia does not officially recognize Israel and has no formal ties with the regime.

UK Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt also said it was an appalling act, adding that it had "possibly" given the U.S. and the UK a chance to put new pressure on Saudi Arabia over other issues.

Saudi Arabia previously said that his intact remains had been wrapped in a rug and disposed of by a still-unidentified "local collaborator", although attorney general Saud al-Mojeb walked back that claim in talks with Istanbul's chief prosecutor this week. Eighteen people were arrested. Ankara maintains that there is strong proof that the killing of the Saudi journalist at the Saudi consulate on October 2 came as a result of a pre-planned operation by a squad of hitmen rather than a spontaneous fist-fight incident, as claimed by Riyadh. United States officials have said such a mission - including 15 men sent from Riyadh - could not have been carried out without the authorization of bin Salman, the country's de facto ruler.
