Several lawmakers have also weighed in, with Democratic Sens.

"I am considering every single legal option available", Scott said while appearing before the media outside the governor's mansion in an event held by his campaign.

Rick Scott, the Republican Senate nominee who now leads incumbent Democratic Sen.

"Well, it could be", Trump said when asked if the federal government could get involved, "because if you look at Broward, and Palm Beach to a lesser extent, if you look at Broward County, they have had a terrible history".

The newspaper's report indicated that Broward is the only county to show this trend, and that this could be due to the Senate race being listed in the lower left hand corner of the ballot, below the instructions.

"This is a clear violation of Florida law", Scott said.

Mr Scott also said he was asking the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to investigate.

Nelson said Scott was abusing his office by trying to stop a complete and accurate counting of all the votes.

"Law Enforcement is looking into another big corruption scandal having to do with Election Fraud in #Broward and Palm Beach", Trump tweeted on Thursday.

"Late Tuesday night, our win was projected to be around 57,000 votes", Scott explained to reporters. Contests with a margin of 0.5 percent or less qualify for automatic machine recounts by every county elections office involved in the contest. On Thursday, Gillum's campaign indicated it was "ready for any outcome, including a state-mandated recount". These same two Democratic-leaning counties proved problematic in providing voter returns in the 2000 presidential election when Republican George W. Bush narrowly defeated Democrat Al Gore in a historic recount.

There are a number of lawsuits already filed by both sides over the counting process.

And then, Nelson and Gillum discovered that there were more outstanding votes from heavily Democratic counties than they had realized.

Florida's secretary of state, a Scott appointee, is tasked with overseeing state-mandated recounts.

"There's a lot of people who have partisan interests in these races making claims", Harf said.

On Friday, West Palm Beach Circuit Court Judge Krista Marx granted an injunction ordering Bucher to submit "over-voted" and "under-voted" absentee ballots to the Palm Beach County Canvassing Board for public review of each vote before they are counted.

In a statement Thursday, Gillum's campaign says it underestimated the ballots that still needed to be counted when he conceded. Easy stuff Lou, like how many ballots were cast? Scott's lead has been steadily shrinking in the Senate race as the state's largest counties continue to tally ballots that were mailed in or cast on a provisional basis on Tuesday.

On Friday, Nelson lawyer Marc Elias shot back at Scott on a conference call with reporters, saying "Just look at the behavior of your governor".

"And we just need to take a deep breath, we need to have some transparency, we need to get the votes counted and we also, though, going forward need to make our election systems better". "We believe that at the end of this process that Senator Nelson is going to be declared the victor".

All of Florida's 67 counties have until noon on Saturday to send their unofficial vote counts to Florida's Division of Elections. Secretary of State Ken Detzner, a Scott appointee, will review the results and decide whether to order recounts.
