Jürgen Klopp: no problems in Liverpool midfield

James Milner says Liverpool is not thinking about the Europa League

James Milner says Liverpool is not thinking about the Europa League

They aren't fun, and as I realised a year ago, I went through the entirety of secondary school without ever seeing Everton win a derby, and to be honest, as much as I want to believe it will, I can't see that changing for a while.

"When everything is brilliant and we score goals you always ask about defending and how can we fix that?"

"In England it's quite hard, but the development and improvement is obvious".

Liverpool were beaten 2-1 in Paris on Wednesday to leave them third in their Champions League group with just a game to play.

Meanwhile, Klopp believes Sunday's derby represents a good opportunity to put to bed the disappointment of midweek, which leaves Liverpool's hopes of reaching the round of 16 in the Champions League in serious doubt.

"One or two years ago [Wayne] Rooney came back, [Gylfi] Sigurdsson came, they said they could not play because of lack of speed".

But, after starting the season with seven consecutive wins inside the opening six weeks, Liverpool have won five times in 12 league and cup games in the 10 weeks since.

James Milner Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp has acknowledged Everton's improvement under Marco Silva ahead of the Merseyside derby, with Liverpool not expecting a "passive" game. "They brought in players he wanted".

"We can take confidence from the way we played at Chelsea".

Fabinho is pushing for a recall but the Brazilian worldwide is better suited to playing in the holding role in a three-man midfield so he may have to make-do with a place on the bench again.

"We were not happy with what we did, or what they did". We are used to that. "It's down to the team and we need to work together".

"The moment you sign a contract for Liverpool you know you understand, 100 percent, the responsibility for these games", he explained. As a player you can't just do anything about it can you? That's what we want to use, and of course the crowd at Anfield.

"It's good we have this one day more and it is not Wednesday - Saturday because that would be really hard".

"It's 4:15 p.m. kick-off, it will be almost dark, no, it'll be dark already? It will be a proper football game".
