After mice food delay, SpaceX set for space station resupply launch Wednesday
The 5,600 pounds of cargo were blasted into space successfully on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.
Later, Musk posted the full video from on board the booster, showing the rocket spiral, then stabilize, then crash sideways into the water.
Unfortunately, SpaceX suffered a malfunction when a grin fin hydraulic pump stalled and Falcone landed out to sea.
The 2,200 pounds worth of experiments, in addition to tools and supplies, will arrive two days after a trio of new astronauts were welcomed to the space station. So, despite the splashdown, you could still call it a pretty good day for the space company.
It is carrying experiments in forest observation, protein crystal growth and in-space fuel transfer demonstration and supplies that will support the crew, station maintenance and dozens of the more than 250 investigations aboard the space station, NASA said in a statement.
The Falcon 9's cargo featured 15 microsats and 49 cubesats from commercial and government entities, ranging from universities, to startups, to even a middle school.
SpaceX attempted to recovered the reusable first stage of Falcon 9 on land but it lost control and made a water landing in Atlantic Ocean about eight minutes after the liftoff.

The 2018 Border-Gavaskar Test series, will get underway after India and Australia played out a 1-1 draw in the T20 global series. Tests by contrast - outside England and Australia - are often played in front of sparse crowds in big, echoing arenas.
The launch was delayed one day after mold was discovered on food bars meant for rodents included in one of the experiments aboard the flight.
Meanwhile, the Dragon cargo capsule was safely on its way to a docking with the station later this week. As USA Today notes, the rocket's booster was the first Falcon 9 to launch three missions, an important part of the company's plan to reduce costs by reusing rockets. It was the company's first missed ground landing, although it has overshot floating barges plenty of times in the past, a tougher feat to pull off.
In late August, sensors detected a small pressure drop in the station's air supply that was traced to a leak in the upper habitation module of the Soyuz MS-09 vehicle.
The timing of the holiday doesn't work out well for three of the crew members now aboard the space station.
The Dragon space capsule that flew on Wednesday was used once before, on a supply mission in February 2017.
Astronaut Anne McClain, also from NASA, will monitor telemetry during the spacecraft's approach.
