Meng Wanzhou, Huawei's chief financial officer, was detained while changing flights last week in Vancouver.

The Chinese foreign ministry said in a statement that Le told Branstad, "The actions of the US seriously violated the lawful and legitimate rights of the Chinese citizen, and by their nature were extremely nasty".

China also urged the USA to 'take immediate measures to correct wrong practices, and revoke the arrest warrant against the Chinese citizen'.

Le called the United States to "immediately correct its wrong actions" and said it would take further steps based on Washington's response.

China accused Canada of violating a bilateral agreement by failing to speedily inform its consulate of the arrest of Huawei Technologies Co. chief financial officer Meng Wanzhou, as tensions between the nations continue to escalate.

Meng, 46, faces United States accusations that she misled multinational banks about Huawei's control of a company operating in Iran. The suggestion is that Skycom was used to disguise Huawei's own violations of USA trade sanctions, which is what caused ZTE so much grief earlier this year.

In Canadian court papers made public on Friday, an investigation by USA authorities found Huawei operated Skycom as an "unofficial subsidiary" to conduct business in Iran.

Le also told the Canadian ambassador on Saturday that there would be severe consequences if it did not immediately release Meng.

During the six-hour hearing, a lawyer for Meng told the court how his client's wealth should not be a factor in whether or not she is freed.

In a hearing that was adjourned on Friday, Canadian government lawyer John Gibb-Carsley asked for bail to be denied, saying Meng has been accused of "conspiracy to defraud multiple financial institutions".

The hearing in Vancouver is the start of a long legal process in Canada that could end with Meng being sent to the USA to stand trial. Ms. Meng explained that Huawei's engagement with Skycom was part of normal business operations and that Huawei had sold the shares it once held in Skycom.

Separately, White House economic advisor Larry Kudlow denied reports that Trump was "livid" that the arrest of Meng occurred while the U.S. leader dined with Xi.

During the meeting, the Vice Foreign Minister strongly protested the arrest of Huawei's CFO.

CFO Meng Wanzhou was arrested.

"We believe this is inhumane and violates her human rights", China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kan said ahead of Monday's bail hearing for Meng.

Navarro admitted that is was "unusual" that Meng's arrest came just as US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping reached a trade truce in Argentina, but said the government's actions are "legitimate". This year, ZTE faced a ban on purchasing US -made parts after failing to meet the terms of its 2017 settlement over those sanctions violations.

But 'one thing that is undoubtedly true and proven is the United States is trying to do whatever it can to contain Huawei's expansion in the world simply because the company is the point man for China's competitive technology companies, ' the daily said.

The statement warned that Beijing would make an unspecified "further response" in light of the United States actions.

"The U.S. has been pressuring the other "Five Eyes" to limit the use of Huawei technology", the article said. "We can't even get Apple to crack an iPhone for us in a terrorist investigation", he said.

"These are organizations ultimately ... tightly tied to Chinese security apparatus, and we think there is some serious issues there".
