Gatwick has warned that disruptions could continue into Thursday.

Some passengers tweeted that they were stuck on planes at Gatwick while others said they were diverted to Heathrow and Manchester.

Flights were diverted or grounded at London's Gatwick Airport after two drones were spotted near the airfield at around 9 p.m. Wednesday night.

London's Gatwick Airport remains shut while police and airport officials investigate reports that drones were flying in the area of the airfield.

The airport advised those heading to Gatwick to travel or collect relatives to check the status of their flight.

"We will update when we have suitable reassurance that it is appropriate to reopen the runway".
