Golfer Jyoti Randhawa arrested on poaching charges rifle recovered

Some animal rights activists tweeted that Mr Randhawa had brought his hunting dogs during the search for tigress Avni that was shot dead in Maharashtra's Yavatmal forest on November 2.

With the arrest of global golfer Jyoti Randhawa from Uttar Pradesh allegedly under the charges of poaching, once again the controversy surrounding Tigress T 1 (Avni) is back in the limelight.

Once a celebrated golfer in India, Randhawa was married to Bollywood actor Chitrangada Singh - the couple split in 2014.

Indian professional golfer Jyoti Randhawa was arrested Wednesday for poaching at a forest reserve, according to the International News.

The officer said a luxury vehicle with registration number HR-26 DN-4299 was also seized from the golfer whose full name is Jyotinder Singh Randhawa.

The Indian professional golfer was previously ranked in the top 100 of the official World Golfing rankings between the years 2004-2009. The Divisional Forest Officer of Katerniaghat is leading the investigation and legal action in the case.

Randhawa reportedly owns a farm in the nearby area and was spotted moving in the are by the forest authorities during the last few days.

Randhawa, who recently started participating in worldwide shooting tournaments, had an A-22 rifle, which was also seized by the police.
