Winter Storm Eboni

A powerful winter storm that has left roads snow covered and slippery in parts of the Upper Midwest is blamed for a Minnesota crash that killed one person and injured nine others.

In the Midwest, winter storm and blizzard warnings were in effect for parts of Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota, the National Weather Service said. Threats of flooding as a result of up to 4 inches of rain in the northern Gulf Coast persist until Friday.

A winter storm is closing roads and knocking out power across parts of central and western Kansas.

At least 3 deaths were attributed to severe weather in the United States as heavy snow and high winds snarled air and ground transportation during a busy holiday travel period.

The bulk of the snow is expected to fall by early to mid Thursday, the NWS states in its warning, with the high winds to follow.

It said a number of missiles hit three targets, which it claimed are weapon depots that belong to the Lebanese Hezbollah group. But whether Tuesday night a Hezbollah delegation was indeed in Damascus at about the time of the air attack, is not confirmed.

The weather service is forecasting wind chill readings of 15 to 25 below zero for Friday night and early Saturday morning.

Several inches of snow fell on Crookston and the surrounding region Thursday and overnight into Friday, and forecasters say up to four additional inches could fall before the snow tapers off later on Thursday.

The Nebraska Transportation Department said Friday nearly two-thirds of Nebraska highways were partially or fully covered with snow.

In Sherburne County, Minnesota, a 47-year-old woman died after a small bus she was on collided with an SUV on Thursday, according to CNN affiliate WCCO. Sheriff's officials say road conditions and visibility were very poor at the time of the accident around 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
