Phillies rumor: Club finally meeting with Bryce Harper in Las Vegas

This new rumor has the Sox making an offer to free agent superstar Manny Machado.

The Bryce Harper saga continues to rumble on two days into the New Year with no end in sight at the moment and not even a clear picture as to who is leading the race to sign the most sought-after free agent in baseball at the moment. Harper's market is largely believed to consist of a handful of teams.

Jeff Passan of ESPN reported the White Sox may be willing to go ten-plus years, but Bruce Levine of 670 The Score reports that Chicago won't go more than seven years for either player.

The future of Bryce Harper is still unclear right now, but there could be perhaps a reunion with the Washington Nationals.

Queen’s Brian May joins Nasa mission for New Year
With New Horizons on autopilot, Mission Control was empty at Johns Hopkins University's Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Md. It is thought to be potato-shaped and dark-coloured with a touch of red, possibly from being zapped by cosmic rays for eons.

The Los Angeles Dodgers, the Philadelphia Phillies and the Chicago White Sox were touted as the three main contenders for his signature, but there seems to be many other franchises that also keeping an eye on the situation. There should be 15 teams in on them if it's limited to seven years!

Just because the Phillies appear to be getting a meeting with Harper doesn't necessarily mean their chances of landing the star outfield are going to increase because once again, the competition is high between other teams as well.

Harper turned down a 10-year, $300 million offer from the Nationals earlier this off-season, and Nationals' owner Ted Lerner has been reluctant to go over that number, but a new report suggests there may be movement on that front. Apparently that hasn't been their only offer. Any team bidding for Harper's services probably will. That could make the Nationals favorites to bring him back for the long term, if indeed the financial offer is substantial enough. Hopefully, a decision will be made by either player soon.
