iTunes and AirPlay 2 Coming to Samsung Smart TVs

Apple makes a device called Apple TV that connects to a full television set, but has never produced a full set itself.

Not to be outdone, LG has now confirmed that it, too, will be supporting AirPlay 2 and HomeKit in its smart TV lineup as well.

Samsung is thankfully leading the charge, allowing iTunes and Airplay 2 compatibility on their 2019 Smart TVs, effectively bridging the divide between two of the biggest tech companies on the planet. Whether it's video, photos or audio, the new capability lets you share it with your Samsung TV just like any other Airplay device.

The biggest TV makers in the business are finally ready to play nice with Apple. That means that people will be able to watch TV and movie content that has been purchased or rented from iTunes and, presumably, they will also get access to whatever Apple's new streaming content service turns out to be. The former two of those three outsell the Apple TV on the USA market, and unless Apple plans to drop the price on their Apple TV, they'll want those customers to have easy access to their forthcoming streaming service. And it could be a crucial win for Apple's growing ambition to take on Netflix.

Ever since Steve Jobs began talking about his plans for the Apple TV, Apple fans have dreamed of getting the full breadth of iTunes and other Apple content on their TV.

According to the announcement, iTunes will be pre-loaded on Samsung's smart TVs launching this year, and a firmware update will bring the app to TVs from 2018. In November, it said its Apple Music streaming service would be made available on Amazon's Echo smart speakers, despite Apple selling its own line of HomePod speakers that compete directly with Echo speakers.

"Our non-iPhone businesses have less exposure to emerging markets, and the vast majority of services revenue is related to the size of the installed base, not current period sales".

The folks behind the latest round of Samsung Smart TVs seem to have reached an agreement with Apple to bring a whole lot of content to their sets this Spring.
