"Honestly, I'm nearly embarrassed to have to say 'Don't drive with your eyes covered, ' but you know apparently we do have to say that", said Travis Lyman of the Layton Police.

Participants in the "challenge" don blindfolds and try to perform ordinary tasks, imitating the characters in "Bird Box", who must cover their eyes lest they see something unspecified yet horrific that drives them to suicide.

Police in Utah say a teen participating in the latest viral challenge caused a crash.

Named after a Netflix horror movie, the challenge involves participants blindfolding themselves while trying to perform everyday tasks - the latest in a long line of risky social media phenomena. One YouTube star also filmed himself driving while blindfolded.

'A Star Is Born' appears poised to win big at Golden Globes
Justin Hurwitz picked up his third Golden Globe when he won best original score for "First Man" on Sunday. While collecting his Breakthrough Performance award at the ceremony, he said: "Thank you, Lucy Boynton ".

Police officers said the 17-year-old drifted into oncoming traffic and hit another auto after pulling a hat over her eyes. According to KUTV and the Layton police department, she soon careered into the other lane and hit another vehicle, a light pole and a sound wall.

"I nearly feel silly saying this", said Layton Police Lieutenant Travis Lyman. Driving is one of the most inherently risky things we do, and this kind of willful disregard for the safety of others should be grounds for an immediate and long-lasting suspension, just like a DUI. "It really puts everyone at risk", he added, calling the stunt "inexcusable".

Police are reportedly weighing reckless driving charges against the teen.

While the company called for people not to hurt themselves, it kicked off its own Bird Box challenge of sorts - partnering with popular Australian Twitch streamers to play their games blindfolded.
