Winter storm warnings and watches have been issued for the tri-state as a second, more potent, storm is expected to slam the area with heavy snow, sleet and ice this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Beginning around 5 p.m. Saturday the system will move into the region possibly dropping several inches of snow on the ground before turning into rain for the rest of the night and for most of Sunday. The National Weather Service said "travel could be very hard at any point during the storm".

A significant storm is expected Saturday and Sunday. The areas indicated in red on the map were though that would likely see about 18 to 24 inches of snow, any area indicated with a shade of blue would see six inches or less or snow.

Last weekend's winter storm registered record snowfalls for parts of central IL with 11.5 inches of snow falling on Springfield over three days. While we will once again by on the northern fringe of this system, we will be close enough this time to get accumulating snow. Snow begins Saturday morning and persists in some fashion through Sunday.

Victor Cha, one of the report's authors said: 'The North Koreans are not going to negotiate over things they don't disclose. The base doesn't appear to be part of denuclearization negotiations between the USA and North Korea.

The snow could cause icy conditions on local roadways. Snow will be heaviest from this afternoon into tonight.

The storm is expected to bring a wintry mix Saturday, before turning into rain overnight. "Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility". Meanwhile, behind the storm, an intense drop in temperatures will lead to a flash freeze in parts of the Northeast on Sunday night as wind chills dip below zero. The storm forced a number of inbound and outbound flight cancellations at both the Portland International Jetport and Bangor International Airport. NY may warm up enough for rain Sunday morning, but freezing is expected by the evening when temperatures plummet. "Strong wind gusts Sunday afternoon into the night could bring down tree limbs and power lines". The snow that falls will be whipped about by gusty winds as temperatures fall into the 20's.

The weather service is predicting a 100 percent chance of snow and sleet two hours up the road in Columbus on Saturday.
