Democrats fear Starbucks coffee king candidate Howard Schultz

On Sunday, former Starbucks CEO and current billionaire Howard Schultz announced that he might run for president.

"If this is about principles and not ego, Schultz would help Democrats defeat Trump or run as a Democrat and broaden the debate within the party", said Center for American Progress President Neera Tanden, a former adviser to Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama in their 2008 campaigns.

The president said he watched Schultz talk about a possible run in his CBS 60 Minutes interview on Sunday night. He was equally critical of both the Democratic and Republican parties and lectured on Trump using social media as a bully pulpit.

"I've become bored with President Trump and his tweets", Schultz responded. In 2015, Trump said that it was a very successful location, while calling for a boycott of Starbucks because the chain did not say "Merry Christmas."

The self-proclaimed lifelong Democrat's announcement was met with concern from some in his party who believe this could pull support away from the nominee and provide an easy path to victory for President Donald Trump.

Democrats are increasingly concerned that a Schultz run would split the anti-Trump vote in 2020.

His conclusion was clear: "In 2020, the great likelihood is that an independent would just split the anti-Trump vote and end up reelecting the President".

It is not a solicitation to make any exchange in commodities, securities or other financial instruments. There was no question that leaving with a Brexit deal was in Britain's best interests, she said.

Tina Podlodowski, the Democratic chairwoman in Washington state, where Schultz has lived for decades, also blasted the potential of an independent campaign.

Since announcing on January 27 that he was "seriously considering running for president as a centrist independent", Schultz faced nearly immediate calls to seriously reconsider. In reality, most Independents have strong leanings towards the ideologies of one party line or the other.

"I will run as a centrist independent, outside of the two party system", he said.

Schultz blamed both parties for the country's $21.5 trillion debt, which he portrayed as "a reckless example" of the "failure of their constitutional responsibility". And all I want to do is bring the country together.

"And what better expression of our democracy than to give the American people a choice that they deserve".

But former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg - another billionaire who has looked in the past at a White House bid as an independent - warned Schultz against it. His comments echo those of a number of prominent Democrats who are wary of a Schultz candidacy, particularly one in which he would be able to spend his own considerable fortune to establish name recognition and get his message out. He criticizes people for advocating for "free government-paid college, free government-paid health care and a free government job for everyone" in the interview, saying those promises are as "big of a false narrative as the wall".

Schultz writes it made him aware of the "negative ramifications attached to power" and writes "I will forever be deeply sorry". "My hope is to share my truth, listen to yours, build trust, and focus on things that can make us better".
