Getting closer to declaring a national emergency: Donald Trump

Pelosi Calls for ‘Bipartisan Consensus’ on Border Security — Then Vows There Won’t Be ‘Any Wall Money’

Pelosi Calls for ‘Bipartisan Consensus’ on Border Security — Then Vows There Won’t Be ‘Any Wall Money’

President Donald Trump continued feeding the weeks of speculation about whether he would declare a national emergency to begin construction on his promised border wall in order to circumvent congressional approval.

During an interview with the New York Times published on Friday, Trump spoke about his progress on the border.

Speaker of the House Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) speaks during a weekly news conference January 17, 2019 on Capitol Hill in Washington.

"I think Nancy Pelosi is hurting our country very badly by doing what she's doing", Trump said, adding that while he has always gotten along with her, "I don't think I will anymore". "So they come into areas where you don't have the barriers", Trump said.

Although Trump expressed skepticism that the bipartisan compromise congressional committee can draft a serious border security proposal before February 15, he has said he will wait until the deadline before acting on his own.

Pelosi, by her stand against the wall, is costing the country hundreds of billions of dollars, Trump said. But on Thursday he described negotiations with opposition Democrats "a waste of time".

President Donald Trump criticized Nancy Pelosi's negotiating style as "rigid" and accused the House speaker of refusing to fund his proposed border barrier simply to "win a political point". "I think there's a good chance we'll have to do that", the president told reporters during an extended pool spray of a meeting on human trafficking.

While the president is expected to focus on immigration, the caustic subject that brought much of the government to a standstill, Trump will also touch on his trade conflict with China and his renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement, which he wants the Democratic House to approve, the official said.

Football is all about great memories and finishing seventh in the Premier League is not one of them. As if that would make everything all right and help forget what fans had just seen.

"I think there's a good chance that we'll have to do that". " Schumer added: "We can secure our border without an expensive, ineffective wall". But I can do it a lot faster the other way", the president said.

"We're renovating large sections of wall".

"We're going to have a strong border".

"I'll continue to build the wall and we'll get the wall finished", he said.

"Unsecure borders give traffickers free and clear passage to transport their victims into the United States".

"We've certainly tried to communicate that to him", said Cornyn, referring to Trump.

If so, the speech would stand in contrast not only to Trump's latest remarks about Pelosi but also to his tone throughout his presidency.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell cautioned President Trump privately this week about the consequences of declaring a national emergency to build his border wall, telling him the move could trigger political blowback and divide the Republican Party, according to two Republicans with knowledge of the exchange.
