Nantes demand that Cardiff pay Emiliano Sala's transfer fee

This comes just days after wreckage from the plane carrying Cardiff City footballer was discovered in the English Channel with a body which is yet recovered.

Sala and pilot David Ibbotson were on board the Piper Malibu aircraft that went missing over the English Channel on January 21, carrying the player from Nantes to Cardiff ahead of his planned first training session with the team.

But Cardiff have "withheld the first scheduled payment until they are satisfied with the documentation", reports the BBC.

Cardiff is looking into details about who owned the plane and who insured it as investigators work through weather difficulties to recover the body that's been seen inside the wreckage, and they intend to meet their transfer obligations to Nantes, according to the Mirror report.

On January 21, Sala was travelling from Nantes to Wales with pilot David Ibbotson, but the aircraft lost contact near Guernsey. BBC have attempted to speak to Nantes for a comment.

Punxsutawney Phil predicts an early spring
The groundhog did not see his own shadow as he emerged from his lair, meaning the United States is heading for an early spring. TIME tested the accuracy of various groundhogs based on their ability to predict the weather of their relative geographic area.

Regional newspaper Ouest-France quoted an anonymous source at Nantes calling Cardiff's attitude "hypocritical", accusing them of "wanting to buy time".

The transfer fee is reportedly set to be paid over three instalments, and Cardiff are reportedly surprised that Nantes have requested the money while Sala has still not been officially found.

An AAIB spokesman said, per the Evening Standard: "We are attempting to recovery the body".

"Strong tidal conditions mean we can only use the remotely operated vehicle (ROV) for limited periods each day and this will mean that progress is slow".

However, due to poor weather conditions the wreckage of the plane has not been recovered and the operation has been brought to a close.
