Second woman accuses Virginia's Lt Governor of sexual assault

Watson is the second woman to come forward with sexual assault allegations against Fairfax this week.

Fairfax has forcefully denied both allegations and refused to resign, saying he has "never assaulted anyone".

But Watson's allegations proved that most Virginia Democrats aren't interested in listening to his account.

The Democrat - now a year into his four-year term - announced his intention to stay at a Friday afternoon Cabinet meeting, according to a senior official who was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.

At which point Virginia Democrats began planning for the future.

Defying practically the entire Democratic Party, Gov. Ralph Northam told his top staff Friday that he is not going to resign over the racist-photo furor, while a second sexual-assault accusation was leveled against his lieutenant governor, the man who would succeed him if he stepped down. Until a week ago, Fairfax was a rising star in the Democratic party, and is only the second African American to ever hold statewide office in Virginia.

New Zealand come right as India crash to worst T20 defeat
Daryl Mitchell, son of former All Blacks rugby coach and current England assistant coach John Mitchell, took a wicket on debut. Their previous worst defeat was by 49 runs against Australia at Bridgetown in 2010. "We failed to get a good partnership".

Three of those people told the newspaper that Tyson, a professor at Scripps College in Claremont, California, identified her attacker to the people as Justin Fairfax, a lieutenant governor or a politician on the rise, according to the report. Cox - a Republican, and third in line for governor should Northam step down - said in a statement that Fairfax's ability to govern has been "permanently impaired" by the "multiple, serious credible allegations" of sexual assault. "She's not suing him for money, so disbelievers and doubters can't say, 'Oh, she just wants money.' She just wants, as she says, the Virginia voters to know who this person is". "I call for his immediate resignation".

On behalf of our client, we have notified Justin Fairfax through his attorneys that Ms. Watson hopes he will resign from public office. The Democrats say Herring has expressed "deep remorse" and must continue to have "in-depth discussions" if he is to regain the public's trust. He has admitted to wearing blackface at a 1984 dance party. Northam, especially, owes his 2017 election to African-Americans, and in particular African-African-American women, 91 percent of whom voted for Northam over Republican Ed Gillespie.

Gov. Justin Fairfax speaks to the media in the rotunda at the Capitol in Richmond, Va., Monday, Feb. 4, 2019.

'It has taken time for me to make sure that it's not me, but I am convinced, I am convinced that I am not in that picture, ' he told reporters at the Executive Mansion in Richmond, calling the picture offensive and horrific. That openness dissipated as the week dragged on, as he rushed through the hallways of the Capitol and avoided questions on the graphic allegations against him. Later, Northam said localities should decide but that he thought they would be best placed in museums. Fairfax, meanwhile, has retained Kavanaugh's legal team. Both Northam and Attorney General Mark Herring campaigned heavily in black areas, and were given entree into many communities by local officials, faith leaders, business owners and regular citizens. Instead of letting reporters break the news on his history with blackface, the attorney general admitted to it in a statement before anyone broke the story. The Associated Press is not reporting the details because the allegation it has not been corroborated. He called top Virginia Democrats, at times almost in tears, to apologize for the controversy and looked to move on by staying out of the limelight.

After years of investment and work to turn the state into a blue enclave in the South, some anxious that the controversies of three men had lit that work on fire and set the party back significantly. All three should go, but they won't. "I think that is tough to explain to voters".
